Day 1

Meet and greet with our guide drive to Kruja - the centre of Albanian resistance against the Turks under our National Hero Scanderbeg. He kept them from crossing into Western Europe for 25 years, thus earning the title “Champion of Christ” given by the Pope of the time. We visit the Skanderbeg Museum, a very rich Ethnographic Museum Spend some time shopping for souvenirs in the old bazaar. Overnight in Tirana. (D)

Day 2

Leave Tirana, directed to Bajram Curri using the new highway that goes through the mountains aka “The Road of the Nation”. We will enter Kosovo where we’ll have a small brake in Prizren. After entering Albania again (this is the shortest way) we arrive in the beautiful Valbona valley. Explore the village on foot. Overnight in guesthaus in Valbona. (B,D)

Day 3

This tour is for active people who would like to get a taste of the culture of the Northern Albanian “Malesore”, native Albanian highlanders. You will discover the Valbona Valley, its hidden attractions, and pristine panoramas by foot. For a glimpse of daily life, we will stay overnight in the guesthouses of a local family, where a delicious traditional dinner with home-grown vegetables will be prepared. On the last day of the tour you will experience an amazing ferry ride on Lake Koman. This lake, surrounded by steep mountains, offers dramatic views. After breakfast we begin the guided tour in the Valbona Pass. Valbona village is the focal point of the Valbona National Park. Its configuration, hydrology, forests, flowers, characteristic dwellings and the hospitality of its people make this park an ideal place to visit and invigorate. Rocky and steepy high peaks, such as Jezerce, Iron, Kollata (Podi of Kollatës), and Pecmarrës attract trackers and alpinists. Agricultural and livestock products or the Valbona Valley National Park and area are completely natural, and entirely organic. Food is generally fresh and homemade, but it is also sometimes processed and canned by the inhabitants of the tiny and remote villages. Stunning nature, clean air, high and characteristic mountain peaks, lakes, numerous water resources, forests, mountains, flora and fauna of Valbona Valley National Park provide conditions for true eco tourism experiences.We visit the Cave of the Wind, Zhapore Trail and Beautiful alcoves. Dinner with home cooked traditional meal. Overnight at local guest house in Valbona. (B,D)

Day 4

Early morning drive to Fierza. Here we take the 7:00am Ferry on Lake Komani - fantastic gorge that we will enjoy during a 2.5 hr trip. We visit Shkodra where we will have lunch by the lake and pay a visit to the Rosafa castle after which we head back to Tirana. Overnight in Tirana. (B,D)

Day 5

Tirana-Berat (UNESCO)--Vlora
After breakfast we drive to Berat, one of the most visited and characteristic towns in Albania under the protection of UNESCO as a patronage of humanity for its architectural uniqueness. Berat castle is of particular interest as people still live within its walls in their traditional houses, as have their ancestors for centuries. The castle used to have over 40 churches of which 7 still remain including St. Mary’s church turned into Onufri Museum. We visit the Castle and the Onufri Museum. Accommodation in Berat in characteristic house turned hotel in the old district. We finish Berat and depart to Vlora for overnight. Overnight in Vlora. (B,D)

Day 6

After breakfast we continue along the wonderful coast past Saranda to reach the ancient city of Butrint another UNESCO World Heritage considered the best archaeological site in Albania and probably one of the most important in the Balkans. The city was first settled by Greek colonists and was continuously inhabited for centuries forming archaeological layers of passing civilizations, giving archaeologists the possibility to study continuity through time. The site has been occupied since at least the 8th century BC, although myths associated with its origins speak of the city’s foundation by Trojan exiles. Overnight in Saranda. (B,D)

Day 7

Gjirokastra is a museum town under the protection of UNESCO as a World Heritage Site with beautiful and very distinct architecture. Afterwards drive to Gjirokastra where we will visit the fortress of Gjirokastra, part of which was turned into a political prison for dissidents of the regime and the Arms Museum. Visit to the Ethnographic Museum, which is also the house the Albanian dictator was born in, as well as a 300 year old house next to it, where the grandeur of Gjirokastra’s master builders can be observed. After the visits we drive to Tirana. Overnight in Tirana. (B,D)

Day 8

After breakfast free time to explore the city and its main sites, including; Et’hem Beg Mosque, the National Historical Museum. Transfert to airport. (B)
